Yael Gonicman    LMFT

Yael Gonicman is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who has been practicing psychotherapy since 2016. During this time she gained experience working with a wide range of issues such depression, anxiety, grief and loss, and trauma in it's many forms. 

​

Yael received her MA in Marriage and Family Therapy from Notre Dame de Namur University. She has trained in several different modalities such as Art Therapy, EMDR (Eye Movement and Desensitization Reprocessing), as well as orientations such as DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) and IFS (Internal Family Systems). This breadth of knowledge allows her to tailor treatment to what will work best for each individual.

Yael was raised in a multicultural background. This allowed her to understand the importance of cultural humility and gave her the ability to be a bilingual therapist providing services in English and Spanish.

Anxiety

Anxiety is our body's natural warning system. It tells us when important things are happening. However, in today's world this warning system can become extremely overwhelming and take over our thoughts and sensations. Together we can work on grounding exercises that can calm our bodies enough to be able to see things from a different perspective. 

Depression

Depression can often be described as a black hole kind of feeling. Where it takes most of our drive, motivation, and passion. Together we can understand the underlying cause behind the depression as well as set up realistic goals so you can be kind to yourself as well as move forward in your life.

Trauma

The wounds that are left in our mind and body from the most difficult experiences of our lives is what is classified as trauma. It is the way that our mind has figured out how to survive in whatever circumstance in can. However the techniques that we have learned to survive  are often in direct opposition to those we need to thrive. Together we can work on how to heal our wounds and learn how to thrive in outlives. 

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy is an opportunity for you to have a a safe nonjudgmental space that is entirely your own. It is a space where you can learn coping skills to deal with the present as well as gain awareness and understanding as to why you think the way you do. It ultimately is a journey that will allow you live the authentic life you want. 

Family Therapy

Family relationships can be extremely difficult. Everyone carries their own personality and perspective into the mix. Family therapy is an opportunity to explore some of the interpersonal dynamics at play with an outside party that can aid in communication and problem solving.

Poder tomar nuestras sesiones de terapia en el idioma que nos sentimos más a gusto es de suma importancia. En las sesiones se tiende a hablar de cosas privadas y etapas  difíciles en nuestras vidas, profundizando en nuestras emociones. Es por ello que necesitamos sentirnos con la mayor confianza posible. 

Tener la oportunidad de llevar la terapia con un terapeuta en nuestro mismo idioma es de gran ayuda y apoya el proceso.
